IV Latin American Zebrafish Network Course and Symposium

December 5-10th in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

        The IV LAZEN Meeting will take place at Pontificia Universidade do Rio Grande do Sul (www.pucrs.br) in Porto Alegre, capital of the Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, in December 2016.

From December 5th to 8th a practical and theoretical course for selected students will be held in an intense schedule from morning to evening. The course is open to students, technicians and principal investigators who are new to the model. Details about the application process are described below.

A International Symposium will follow the course on December 9th and 10th.  The symposium is open to the public and includes speakers from different fields and several sessions dedicated to themes such as gene edition techniques including CRISPR/Cas9, Use of Morpholinos, Toxicology and Pharmacology, Models of Human Disease, Behavioral Screenings and Technical and Strategic aspects of zebrafish use. The symposium will include poster sessions and a prize for best poster.

DETAILS ABOUT THE COURSE AND HOW TO APPLY TO PARTICIPATE:

The course will have no cost to 15 selected students, technicians and principal investigators who are new to the use of zebrafish from all countries in Latin America. Selected candidates are responsible for their travel and maintenance costs and should be in Porto Alegre on the evening of December 4th.

Course instructors include international specialists and detailed schedule information will be soon available. Training will include practical sessions on topics such as:

-        Zebrafish maintenance, health, husbandry and breeding

-        CRISPR/Cas9

-        Morpholinos

-     Toxicological screenings

-     Behavioral tests in larvae and adults

Candidates’ selection will be based on the potential application of the course knowledge in context with the LAZEN mission of fostering zebrafish use in Latin America. No more than one person per research group will be selected.

Two separate pdf files attached to the message should include: 1) an application letter detailing the course relevance and perspective application of the new knowledge and  2) a brief CV.
