GROUP NAME / RESEARCH INTEREST IN FEW WORDS:

Genetics and Molecular Evolution Laboratory

SHORT SUMMARY OF RESEARCH INTEREST (MAX. 200 WORDS):

Research in my laboratory focuses on uncovering the genetic bases of human brain evolution and the inner ear in mammals. In addition, I am focused in understanding how human evolution and human-specific susceptibility for psychiatric and neurological disorders are linked. I have developed expertise in the identification and study of gene regulatory regions such as enhancers. In my laboratory we have developed capacities for bioinformatics analysis and also for the generation of genetically engineered animal models to test hypothesis. In fact, we are pioneers in our region in the generation and analysis of complex genetically modified animals including zebrafish and mice.
