Coronavirus Disease 2019 and LAZEN Perú 2020

Conference postponed!

We regret to inform that the COVID-19 crisis has severely affected the viability of LAZEN Perú 2020. Although the few reported cases in Perú are imported and very recent, the growing number of travel restrictions at academic institutions worldwide has led approx. 60% of speakers to cancel their participation in our conference. After the latest WHO announcement, the Peruvian government imposed a mandatory quarantine procedure for travelers coming from China, Italy, France and Spain. As of today, flights from Europe and Asia may not land in Perú. More countries are likely to follow.

While our initial intention was to carry on as planned, these recent developments have forced us to reconsider and postpone the conference in order to avoid contributing to the spread of the disease. We are currently evaluating the logistic/financial viability of new tentative dates, to be announced shortly. The venue in Cusco and the format of the conference shall remain unaltered. Registered participants wishing to attend the conference at the later date need not anything and will keep their full rights.

We apologize the inconveniences that this decision may cause not only to participants, organizers and organizing institutions but also to academic/commercial sponsors and funding agencies. The rapidly evolving nature of this health crisis worldwide has overwhelmed us all.

We are very grateful to the outstanding ensemble of speakers who enthusiastically accepted our original invitation. We also want to thank our academic and commercial sponsors for their continuing and generous support as well as the local organizing team for the amazing job done facing the enormous challenge of setting up a world-class meeting in a developing country. Conferences of this sort take place routinely in Europe and the US but not in Latin America. Hence, the impact of LAZEN Perú 2020 goes beyond the communication of scientific results. With it, we aim at broadening the horizons of academic networking and career development in Latin America.

As unfortunate as the circumstances are, we see this as an opportunity to improve and relaunch our event with renewed energies.

Welcome to LAZEN Perú 2020

On behalf of the organizing committee, we cordially invite you to the 6th International Meeting of the Latin American Zebrafish Network (LAZEN), a regional cluster initiated ten years ago to promote zebrafish research through courses and conferences. After five meetings at great locations across Latin America, we are delighted to bring the LAZEN family for the first time to Perú, a must-see highlight in this vast and diverse region. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we extend a warm invitation to all researchers working on zebrafish, Medaka and other fish models worldwide.
